Kevin Vaught, M.D., joined the Brain and NeuroSpine Clinic and the medical staff at Southeast Missouri Hospital upon his arrival in Cape Girardeau in 2003.
As a neurosurgeon, one of Dr. Vaught's big concerns was joining a medical facility that had adequate technology and excellent nurses. "I have found both here at Southeast Missouri Hospital," he says.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Houston in 1989, and received his medical degree in 1993 from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He completed an internship at the University of Tennessee and a Neurosurgery residency at the University of Tennessee, Semmes-Murphy Clinic. Prior to coming to Cape Girardeau, Dr. Vaught practiced in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Best of Both Worlds
Dr. Vaught praises the family atmosphere in Cape Girardeau. He and his wife both grew up in large cities and immediately saw the attraction of living in a place where children can be children. They have three young boys who are very involved in swimming, soccer and baseball leagues. |

"There's lots to do here, and we've really enjoyed getting to know our neighbors and being part of a community," he says. "Cape Girardeau offers the best of both worlds. It's a small town with all the amenities that offers, but you're a short distance from St. Louis and Memphis for a big-city fix."
